Organizing with GoBinder
29 May 2005 Posted By: TracyPosted in: GoBinder, Organization
I haven’t had much time to organize this semester because it’s been quite hectic, but I finally sat down and brought together many different ideas and templates and things I already use to make my life more organized, using GoBinder as my tool.
I don’t like to open a lot of programs because the more programs I need, the more likely I am to not stay organized. I have my system down to two: Maxthon (or any browser really, but Maxthon is my weapon of choice) and GoBinder. Browser takes care of all communication and news, GoBinder takes care of all record keeping and data management.
I thought I’d use this post to focus on the GoBinder side of my set-up, as I see it to be very adjustable and pretty simple, but it took me a year to get it working as I wanted it. I’m also including the "Organizer" add-on I use in GoBinder for anyone else who’d like to either use everything or just pull parts from it. The templates used are pulled from the DIY Planner, Franklin Covey Form Wizard, and a couple paper day planners I’ve used and have liked.
If you’re looking for a paper solution, make sure to check out 43 Folder’s Hipster PDA. I was very tempted to go buy some index cards, but decided to apply the idea to my tablet instead.

Windojitsu: Physics Illustrator Hints
28 May 2005 Posted By: TracyPosted in: Other, Software Info, Tablet PC University Series, Tips / Tricks
Windojitsu.com (a blog of one of the programmers) has some hints on the MS PowerToy Physics Illustrator, for all those who like to play with it for school or fun (or both ^_^).
"Some mates of mine asked me about about Physics Illustrator last night, and I googled it… whoa boy! I’ve never seen such love and praise written about any piece of code I’ve touched.
"The outpouring of love and excitement over Physics Illustrator really surprises me. It’s a fun and compelling demo app, no doubt. But as an actual end-user app, it leaves much to be desired. The UI is completely undiscoverable (hint #1: read the help file, seriously) and without an undo feature, it can be quite frustrating to use.
Reformatting…

Before I head off to Redmond to start my internship with Microsoft, I’m performing a complete restore of my tablet.
I’m about to reboot and wipe the whole thing.
If I’m not back by tomorrow, avenge my death…

Digital Media and Open-Note Tests
22 May 2005 Posted By: TracyPosted in: Tablet Concepts
This topic I’ve thankfully never had to deal with yet, but I’ve always wondered and worried about. What will I do when a teacher offers an open note test? Will they allow my tablet?
These two articles were e-mailed to me and I think they cover some good points from controlling digital communication during tests to redefining the purpose of testing. This is a topic both students and teachers should both take interest in.
Easier Handwriting in OneNote
22 May 2005 Posted By: TracyPosted in: Note-Taking, OneNote, Tips / Tricks
First, I’m all moved in to my new apartment and settled into my new job, so things should start to pick up again on my half. Now just to get in the swing of things again, and I cut my finger so it’s a little hard to type with a band-aid, but I promise I’ll get back to articles in a little. In the mean time, I’ll take the cheap way out and just point to cool articles others have written ^_^.
LE 1600
18 May 2005 Posted By: TrevorPosted in: Choosing a Tablet PC
The new Motion Computing LE1600 is here!
I think this is really a great machine. I first got my hands on one of these during my Microsoft interviews in Redmond in late April. Since then, I’ve been brimming with excitement about this tablet.
Motion has really listened to their customers to incorporate a lot of good ideas. The new LE1600 is faster, lighter, and thinner. The new accessories are really something as well. The new keyboard is much more like a notebook keyboard and is a vast improvement over the current hardtop. The extended battery allows for 8 hours of battery life.
All in all, I think this is THE tablet to get. Unfortunately for us students, it’s rather expensive. There are ways of mitigating this, but for the full experience you will want all the accessories. I’m planning to get one in July.
If you are in the San Francisco Bay Area, you can see LE1600 in person on Wednesday the 25th. More details later. Read more for more photos…
Excellent Posting on Office 2003 Ink

Warner Crocker has posted an excellent writeup on how to use ink with Office 2003. The inking features of Office 2003 make it very compelling for the Tablet PC user to upgrade to the 2003.
For students, there is the Office Student Teacher Edition which retails for $150. Here it is on Amazon for $124.99, not bad. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0000C0XT1/qid=1116199492/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1_etk-software/104-9264418-7104746?v=glance&s=software&n=229534
