Update: Selling the Acer 302

OK, operation tablet switch has commenced. Yesterday I went out and bought my desktop so I can get things set-up on it and prepare for the absence of my tablet when I send it off for a few small repairs I’ve been griping about.

It’s kinda cool having a "real computer" again after so long with my tablet alone. I mean, I went the cheap way with a CRT monitor, so the whole PC takes up the space of maybe 40 Tablets, which I think is pretty funny. I’d post a pic, since my "desk" is also funny since it’s half composed of the boxes everything came in, but my camera broke, along with my wallet ^_^.

On The Lookout: RecallPlus to Add Ink

I think everyone will agree that this is awesome news. In somewhere around two weeks RecallPlus, a notes/study/testing software similar to Supermemo but much more user friendly, is said to be releasing a version with ink support for Tablet PCs. This company says they see tablets as the wave of the future which is why they’ve had someone working on this for a while.

Now, for those of you wondering what RecallPlus is, read on after the jump and we’ll hit the highlights.

A post on our forum prompted me to do a search for "free chapter petroleum" and I ran across and interesting site I was surprised to have been clueless too. I know many of you are looking for a place to find free online books, so here’s one for the keeping.

GoBinder Expands it’s Horizons…

Apparently there is now a feature for illustrating your notes which works amazingly similar to Revelation Natural Art.  Or so says Laptop Magazine ;-).

Gobindermixup

And yes, this is a joke on a mix-up (just to cover all bases, heh).

The ThinkPad Tablet Video

I just wanted to point out that anyone who has never seen a Tablet PC, anyone who is thinking about the ThinkPad, or anyone just trying to figure out what a Tablet PC is should check out the video on the official ThinkPad website.

If you’re a student, the middle ten minutes probably will be pretty boring (they were to me anyway but maybe I’m tired) but the first five are cool with nice visuals and the last five talk about schools adopting the Tablet PC.

OneNote Organizer Add-In

5 June 2005 Posted By: Tracy
Posted in: OneNote, Organization

OK, I have a OneNote version of the thing I’m calling "Organizer" ready for download.

Organizer.zip

To "install" the file, go into your My Documents folder and find a folder called My Notebook. Unzip the Organizer files into the My Notebook folder and you should be good to go. I think. I haven’t really worked with transferring files in OneNote much, so if there’s a better way I’m missing, let me know.

One thing cool about OneNote is the templates. To use any of the files in the organizer whenever or however you like, simply make it a stationary template. Open OneNote to the page you want to make a template, click Format>>Stationary, and you should see something that says "Save current page as stationary." Click this, and you should now be able to use the form anywhere you want by simply selecting it as the stationary.

You can also set that specific stationary as the default for a new page in that folder, so say you want to make a section for tracking your daily exercise. Just make the section where you want it, then set the default as the exercise log you made as a stationary, and every new page you make in that section will default to that stationary.

In this OneNote version, I also included a Calendar folder with monthly and weekly forms. If you use Outlook for your calendar, by all means, continue, but there are die hards out there who love writing VACATION in huge letter across an entire week, or crossing out the days in red marker as they tick by, and this is for them (need I say I’m one of them? lol). It pretty much replicates exactly a paper day planner’s calendar.

More and some pictures after the jump.

A Fling with OneNote?

5 June 2005 Posted By: Tracy
Posted in: Note-Taking, OneNote

Well, I’m one of those people who are constantly changing things, from my hair cut/color, to my furniture arrangement, to the bag I carry. It’s not a surprise to me that I’m somewhere around 80% sure I’m going to try OneNote for the Summer and at least the Fall. The urge for something new and some, um, annoyances with GoBinder have convinced me to change. Plus, this way y’all will now have a balance between OneNote/GoBinder articles :-D.

And I should have a OneNote version of the Organizer I made for GoBinder up by the end of today, and maybe an update to the GB one (there were some things I decided I didn’t like).

OnlineOrganizing dot com

While I’m on this organizational kick, I thought I’d throw in another neat site called OnlineOrganizing.com. It’s not exactly tablet related (though it could be), but many students are faced with the problem of going from one single (and often cluttered) room to a whole dorm/apartment/house to figure out what to do with. To make your tablet functional, the space around you needs to be functional (how’s that for finding the connection?) and that’s where organization come in.

I’ll be selling my Acer 302

4 June 2005 Posted By: Tracy
Posted in: Low Budget Tablets, Tracy's Updates

The original idea was to keep my convertible and to buy the new LE1600 later this month, but after thinking about it a lot, I decided it’d be a better use of my money to sell my convertible, buy a nice, large flat-screen monitor, and either build or buy a cheap desktop (for storage, to test programs, and maybe some games/programs I don’t want to clutter my tablet with). That’d be way cheaper, and then I’d have a big monitor to double up on when needed.

This means I’ll be selling my Acer C302XCi (with the extra battery) later this month, or early July. The current idea is to buy/build the desktop, transfer everything and get things running and backed up, send the Acer off to get fixed up (it’s still under warranty), sell the Acer, then use that money to help buy the Motion and the new monitor. I haven’t looked at finances to sort out if I’ll be able to start the process in the next week or if I have to wait till the 22nd, but either way it will be this month.

If you’re looking for an Acer 300 series tablet, wouldn’t mind a used one, would like personal support for getting started or whatever (including a phone call or two if needed/desired), and don’t need it right away, I’m willing to part with my puppy for $1,300USD plus shipping. Detail if you’re interested in the tablet after the jump.
