STPC on the Move

We’ve grown kinda big here at The Student Tablet PC. Over 200 articles and over 730 comments, with most of those articles and comments swamped and hidden in a mass of poor organization. I know it, because sometime I have trouble finding things that I know are there.

The original intent of The Student Tablet PC was to be a website, but we went with a blog format because it was easy to set up, easy to slowly add on to, and easy to keep up with what was updated. Since then, we’ve turned into a mix of news updates, how-to articles, and reviews, and we need a site that gives us more freedom to do what we want with our information we offer. Long story short, we’re moving up to Movable Type.

Acrobat Commenting

I was speaking with Eric Mack and he mentioned his search for a program which kept track of what you highlighted. It didn’t dawn on me until then that Acrobat may be an answer (though not ideal).

If you’ve used Adobe Acrobat 7.0 before, you likely know that you can mark-up your PDF files by highlighting text, underlining text, and adding comments. By selecting a commenting option and using the comment list/summary, you can give yourself a list of every word you mark up.

More details after the jump.

Forum Mod: Image Upload

29 October 2005 Posted By: Tracy
Posted in: Blog Related

I’ve been playing with mods on our forum and I actually got a useful one working! Anyone registered can now upload images to any post, and up to 20 at a time. This should be useful sharing images of tablets, notes, set-ups, accessories, etc.

One other small mod is you can now select from a pre-loaded gallery of avatars (the little pictures under your screenname), including a bunch of tablets ^_^.

Enjoy!

Oh, why not. I’ll go paperless too

Alright, for the past three semesters I’ve told myself I was going paperless, but I always end up with mounds of papers and books because I never fully try.

While Eric Mack is doing his 8-Week challenge, I’ll be joining him, since 8 weeks from now would put me at my last final and that just makes good timing.

Three New Links

Three new links were added to our Links to Enjoy today:

  1. Rob Bushway’s Blog - I’m sorry, Rob. No idea how I missed it. I’ve read every post for a long time now.
  2. The Paperless Student - A student blog on using technology in the classroom at the University of Washington.
  3. Simulacrum - another student, Michael, (a first year PhD student in Communication, Rhetoric, and Digital Media) posting about his tablet experience. There’s already a five month archive but I just stumbled upon it the other day. We’ll overlook the fact he goes by "ougrad" (hook ‘em).

How’s It Going? and Where the Hell Have I Been?

Hello there?

Who am I, you ask? Yes, I certainly admit to being AWOL for the last xx months. Everytime I think I’ll have more time to contribute to this site, I don’t. Well, I’m setting some priorities straight. I logged into the Buzz today and realized I hadn’t visited in over two weeks. There’s something wrong with my life if I don’t have time to even check in on the community in two weeks.

So what’s been keeping me busy?
