Free GoBinder?

Saw this on the Buzz Edit: link to forum topic fixed

It’s a survey about eTextbooks and if you complete it you get a serial number for GoBinder via email.

Go here to take the survey. Update 3: Survey is now closed.

Update: There is speculation about whether or not this works. I’ll admit I was skeptical, but there were a few people on the Buzz who did receive serials of GoBinder after completing this survey. Regardless of whether people get GoBinder or not the survey is useful to someone who is trying to market electronic textbooks. If you are interested in using this technology it is in your best interest to answer this survey, regardless of reward.

Tired of Customer Service, Get Human!

If you are like me (it’s possible) you call customer support only when you haven’t found an answer elsewhere. So sitting on the phone listening to it tell you how you can find answers on the website or talking to a computer for 3 minutes is big damn waste of your time. Since my only phone in my life is my cell phone, which I imagine is true for many of our readers, going through five menus and being placed on hold is not just a waste of time but a waste of money too.

Excellent video on how a teacher uses MindManager

Scott Guthrie, who looks to be a high school teacher, produced a great video (again, with Camtasia) demonstrating how he uses MindManager in the classroom. There’s been a bunch of talk and demo’s of MindManager lately, but I especially like this one because it helps show not only the features of MM, but also ways people are using the software.

SPC: Week 7

27 February 2006 Posted By: Andrew
Posted in: Going Paperless

I feel like I should have a them song or something. Maybe I’ll make a graphic for next week. In any event, week 7 is here! Things are going good, I’m pretty darn paperless. In fact, I’m paperless in every class I can be paperless in. The exception being Chemistry Lab and various worksheets in Calculus III that we do in class on paper. Excellent! But I want more, by next big hurdle in my SPC is to scan all my papers that I have for this semester and organize it all in OneNote. It should be tedious than anything and I hope to have it all done by Spring Break.

Open Loops: Twelve Ways to Mark Up a Book

27 February 2006 Posted By: Tracy
Posted in: General Tips

Here’s a link to Twelve ways to mark up a book (link via Achieve it). Personally, I think these guys need Tablet PCs and eBooks (wink), but I still think these are some good practices to follow. I especially like some of the general tips, such as not to mark the obvious and to use codes to mark questions, important things, and topic sentences.

Be sure to read the comments, too. Some were quite interesting, like the envelope corner idea.

Working through the e-mail

Posted in: Tracy's Updates

I feel like I’m in a twelve-step program, but with my GTD efforts, I’m trying to really catch up with all the many things I’ve been neglecting lately, like e-mail.

Some of you may have noticed I’ve been really slow to respond, or haven’t responded at all to some questions/comments. The good news is Wednesday I picked up a Sprint PPC-6700 with EV-DO, so I can answer e-mail where ever I am and therefore I’m more likely to get back to you sooner. It’s really helping with keeping up with everything I have going on, so, as a side note, I highly recommend a hand held device even if you have a Tablet PC.

Alright all you English majors and thesis writers, time to go get the perfect program for you. And if you don’t have a Tablet PC, and if you spend a lot of time in Word, this program is cool enough to make the decision to buy one for you.

JumpingMinds has InkGestures for Word out of beta and now ready for download. It’s $39, but if you’ve ever tried editing a paper on the computer, well, I bet you printed it out and grabbed a colored pen instead. This program combines the red-pen editing with editing the actual document. One step. How much time would that save YOU?
