Ink Sudoku

I haven’t seen anyone talk about this anyway, so maybe I just missed it, but Microsoft has released Microsoft Sudoku for Tablet PC Edition, sorta.

There was supposed to be a program called Inkudoku released at the end of January by another developer. Well that fell through and I gave up hope for an Ink-based Sudoku program until I decided to check the scene again. A quick Google search led me to Robert Burke’s blog, he’s a member of the Developer and Platform Group at Microsoft Ireland. He talks about a demo program for optimizing UMPC applications for touch and ink which just happens to be: Microsoft Sudoku.

Hi, my name is Tracy, and I’m a TEO 3.0-aholic

When I was using GoBinder, I loved the planning features built in to the program. Having a calendar and task management right there with native ink was neat. I then switched to OneNote for the features of OneNote 2003/2007. I’m finding neither software to really be right for me anymore.

Most of my notes are sporadic, kept in random places around my computer in different formats. I have oodles of Excel files, MindManager files galore, and random PDF, Word, and PowerPoints spread around. I don’t really take many standard notes anymore. I mark up books, map out chapters, and fill in handouts. Maybe it’s an engineering thing. Maybe it’s just me. But I definitely don’t want to print all of them to OneNote just to stay organized.

What am I getting at here? I finally had the chance to play around with TEO 3.0 Beta 1 (Tablet Enhancements for Outlook). Now THIS is what I’ve been looking for (I think…I still need to test it for a semester). “But, Tracy, TEO’s just an Outlook plug-in. How on earth can that replace OneNote or GoBinder?”

Motion LE1600 review on the way

Yes, I’m reviewing Trev’s tablet, but I’ve never had a chance to play with the LE1600 for longer than a minute and now I’m going to have one in my hands for a week (SO COOL!). I’m mostly interested in how much the new keyboard really affects usage. Is it really THAT much better? Is the weight the extended battery adds really worth it? How does the total package work out for a person that types a lot, like me?

(CLARIFICATION: It’s not Trev’s actual tablet. It’s just the same type he uses. Thought I’d make sure that was clear).

Intellitabs Pricing Cut

18 April 2006 Posted By: Tracy

Tabs work great with tablets (and with any computer…think FireFox), so any program that adds tabs to something, I like, such as Intellitabs.

What’s even better is that Intellitabs informed me that they cut their prices as follows:

1) From $29 to just $19 for the standard version 2) From $59 to just $29 for the pro version 3) All 3 Intellitabs products now for just $49 (instead of $99)

RememberTheMilk

RememberTheMilk is another site that I use to keep up with school. Despite its rather odd name, RememberTheMilk is a great implementation of a to-do list that’s online. What’s so great about it? you ask. Let me tell you what I like about it.

Adding tasks is easy and you can file them under different sections. So I have a section for homework, a section for my work, a section for personal things, etc. What’s more is how easy it is to add a task. Thanks to the use of keyboard shortcuts, just press “t” (for “tasks”) and a new task field appears.

Being the computer nerd/geek I am, I like to try all the new web services that come. I’ve been using 30Boxes for last few months and have found it to be excellent calendaring program that college students should just fall in love with.

30Boxes.com is an online calendar that is very simple to use and that’s why I like it. Did I mention that it is free?

Google Text Messages (SMS)….Cool!

Now this is neat….and very useful!!! It’s Google through text messages.

Need directions in a hurry but only have a dinky phone? Text “[address #1] to [address #2]” to 46645 (GOOGL) and Google will text you back the driving directions. Text “define {word]” to get a definition sent back to you, or text “weather [location]” for the weather. There’s a bunch of stuff you can do, mostly the normal Google hacks that most people don’t know of.

Check out this link for more details and more ideas.

A mix of news updates

Hi Everyone,

There’s been a lot of stuff I just haven’t had the chance to post lately, and I’m sorry about that. This semester gets busier by the minute, it seems, all while I still have to struggle to keep my GPA above 3.25 for financial reasons. Tests are finally slowing down as it gets closer to finals, but of course I had to get sick this weekend (yet another sinus infection).

Seeking an internship? A new book can help!

As college students we are often told about the importance of getting an internship while in school. For many people seeking an internship can be a daunting and frustrating task.

A friend of mine, Jengyee Liang (Berkeley Alum 2005), has recently published a book, Hello Real World! detailing her own internship experience. During her four years of college she had 3 internships at top companies, eventually ending up at Proctor & Gamble for full-time employment.
