Dell dishes out more Tablet PC punishment
29 July 2007Posted By: RobertPosted in: News
No sooner has the the bludgeoned CPU of Dell’s last victim cooled down and they have seen fit to release yet another video clip of electronic execution. The helpless victim this time, in promotion of Dell’s own upcoming Latitude Tablet PC, is a Toshiba M400 (as IDed by Rob Bushway) and the executioner’s ‘overkill’ weapon of choice this time around is a table saw.
Although many seem to be seeing these promotional videos as a bit of a harmless hoot, I still can’t comprehend why it is necessary to wantonly destroy something that could be of so much use to many of us cash strapped students. In fact far from making me warm to Dell’s upcoming Tablet, I’m getting increasingly put off by the more sacrificial videos I see. I know, following previous community discussions we’ve had, that I’m not alone in thinking this but are we in a minority here? I’d love to hear your thoughts on this. ::via GottaBeMobile

someone needs to destroy a few dells when they come out, see how they like it

Well, that’s another tablet gone from ebay =(
While it’s certainly attention-grabbing marketing, I fail to see how that would make me want to buy a Dell.

Saying that Dell shouldn’t have wasted a Tablet PC because a student could have used it is like saying should not have spent $300K on a commercial because they could have used that money to .
It’s advertising! Dell wasn’t like, “Hey, should we make a commercial, or give a kid a computer?” That argument just doesn’t seem very valid to me.

@Jay - You make a valid point about it coming from Dell’s advertising budget but it’s this ethos of waste that really upsets me. They could make their advertising campaign more ecologically responsible but they are choosing instead to go for, in my opinion, negative sensationalism. I think an even higher level of sensationalism can be generated in a much more positive way i.e. turning up unannounced at a couple of needy schools with a truckload of their new Tablets and handing them out to all of the kids. They can film the event in the same ‘on the fly’ way that they’ve produced the other two vids before ‘leaking’ them onto YouTube etc. Much more positive!! Anyway thanks for taking the time to reply Jay

Hm, I tend to agree with Jay. There’s nothing saying those tablets weren’t fried before they demolished them. I’m willing to believe a big company like Dell has one or two dead computers lying around. What about that car insurance commercial where they drop a car from the roof-top to show the effect of getting in a wreck? Some poor student at that school could be driving it, but no, they had to crash it (?). And it’s not like tablets are food, water, clothing, or shelter.
It’s great to see people being concerned about the use and recycling of material, don’t get me wrong. I just think there are bigger fish to fry, but whatever floats your boat (see what happens when I spend too much time at the coast?).

Dell is NATO (No action talk only). HP waste no time. They are non-stop selling and selling with cheaper priced TX1000 series (e.g. Athlon 64×2 dual core processors).
No wonder HP is No. 1 and Dell is No.2.
