5GB of online storage for FREE

skydrive_short1.jpgFancy a ton of online storage space for FREE? I thought you would. Well it’s not quite a ton but Microsoft today announced an upgrade of their Windows Live SkyDrive facility from a measly 1GB up to a really useful 5GB. What’s more they’ve also extended the service to more countries, offering more of us the gift of space (check out the full details on the Windows Live SkyDrive Team Blog).

I’ve just signed up for an account and had a quick look around and I’ve got to say I’m pretty impressed. Don’t take my word for it. Get yourself along and stock up on the GBs. Let us know what you think! Thanks Microsoft! ::via jkOnTheRun

matt - I’ve no idea sorry. I just posted this news as soon as I got it and tried it out

Unrelated to the post, but I came across this link: http://www.iogear.com/product/GPEN200N/ Looks like a pretty cool device.

Hello to all! AOL has a better 5GB service, it’s called Xdrive. You can install it in your computer as a network drive and just cut & paste files from your Windows Explorer.

You can have the MediaMax free online storage too for 25GB! (www.mediamax.com)

    Enjoy!

Unrelated to this post (though I did sign up for SkyDrive after reading this) - but, what is wrong with the RSS feed? It just says that the CPU limit has been exceeded?

    Is this blog dead?

  7. Manon Says:

I sure hope it’s not dead. I just love Tracy Hooten, and have followed her blogging for years. She says in a post below, the one with the white flag, (can’t look it up now), that she has something like 5 or 6 classes to finish her last semester of petroleum engineering at UT, plus her wedding to plan, and that she won’t be able to post for awhile. I wish some of the other contributors here could step up and take up the slack — would be super nice, guys.

“This Account Has Exceeded Its CPU Quota

    Please contact this site’s webmaster.

Wait a few minutes and use your browser’s “Back” button or click here to try again.

If you are the webmaster, your account may have gotten this error for one or more of the following reasons:

    * Your account has used more than its share of the cpu in the past 60 second sliding window.
    * Your account has too many concurrent processes running simultanously.
    * Your account has consumed too much memory.
    * Your site was recently very busy trying to run inefficient scripts.

The solution would be to optimize your applications to use less CPU. Adding appropriate indeces to your SQL tables can often help reduce CPU. Using static .html documents instead of painful .php scripts will practically eliminate CPU usage.”

I got it as well….I wondered why it had been so slow here….

As the last comment shows, there can be correct passages of English and yet absolutely nothing communicated. Maybe it is just a provocation to see if anyone is listening out there on this, yes for all practical purposes for spring semester anyway, a very dead website and blog. Sort of like the tablet PC itself. One really has to face the truth that the TPC HAS NOT caught on; it is a fringe that Gates himself cannot get to catch on outside esoteric industrial niches. It takes tons of time messing with this thing to get it to work right and much more time to get efficient at it. By the time one masters a TPC one could have studied and passed several semesters of engineering classes. I gave my little tablet a try but it is just not impressing anyone out there in the working world - not with MAC Airs or $500 PC laptops and such. It was a fun ride while it lasted but unless huge inroads are made in the education market that translate to the later adult market, the tablet will be lumped with laser scanners and other logistics devices not really beneficial to normal consumers. Good luck all.

Well said, Will. I struggled with practical uses of tablet pc for years but I always give a try but it is simply too hard to bare (or use)… At this point, everybody runs (Tracy Hooten and Eric Mack). The ones who could make a few bucks (GOTTABEMOBILE and ubertablet) stayed on…

Of courses, there is always at least one fanatic: Sumocat

Idea of tablet technology is good but its practical uses on laptop pc is unsound.

Good luck on your last struggles :)
