CES 2008: Microsoft Origami Experience 2.0 Booth
12 January 2008 Posted By: TracyPosted in: CES 2008
The Origami Experience 2.0 looked neat. The first version of it was only relatively helpful since it left much to be desired as far as usability, but it looks like MS took more into account such as actual usage.
There’s a NOW screen that grabs all the things it thinks are new and interesting (mail, podcasts, weather, music, news, etc.) and I really liked the picture password option it adds. Picture password displays a picture of your choice and you touch the points on the picture in the order that you earlier designated as your “password.” More like a passcode. I thought it was cool.
CES 2008: Tablet/UMPC Meet-up!
12 January 2008 Posted By: TracyPosted in: CES 2008
Thanks to GottaBeMobile, JKOnTheRun, TabletLawyer, MobileDemand, and Microsoft for sponsoring the 2008 CES Tablet/UMPC meet-up! It was a real blast to see everyone and to talk to some people I hadn’t yet had a chance to chat with. Also, thanks to them many OEM’s who helped out including Lenovo, HP, Motion Computing, TabletKiosk, Fujitsu, ProClip, Otterbox, TechSmith, and IT Cases.
I’m amazed at the shear amount of goodies that were found to give away, and not just free pens and shirts, but Tablet PCs (any fully-loaded Motion, an HP TX2000, and a Lenovo X61T) and a UMPC (the Fujitsu U810). It seemed everyone was in the giving mood!
CES 2008: Toshiba Protégé M700
12 January 2008 Posted By: TracyPosted in: CES 2008
I didn’t get as much time as I hoped with this on, but it sure is a powerhouse for only 4.6 lbs. You can get a 2.6 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo which is pretty sweet for a tablet with dual touch and pen. I really liked my M200 and it seems they’ve only improved the series. Call me greedy, but I do wish it was lighter since it only has a 12.1″ screen.
CES 2008: Cool HP Monitor

Wouldn’t this be neat to have for tablet work? It has great clarity and brightness, also.
CES 2008: Samsung’s Q1 Ultra / Ultra Premium
10 January 2008 Posted By: TracyPosted in: CES 2008
Samsung had quite the showing at CES, with a giant section and a good chunk of it showing off their many variations of the Q1 Ultra/Ultra Premium. I think “Ultra Premium” is going a little overboard on the naming, but I’ll put that aside for now.
After playing with this in person, it’s not bad. The keys are as tiny as they look, but it’s much perkier than the old Q1 I have with a 1.3 GHz Intel Core Solo and still with “7.5 hours” battery life, although I don’t know what that equates to in real life and it depends on the operating system. It also has 80 GB hard drive or a solid state drive option.

CES 2008: Day 2 Update - Chest Cold?
8 January 2008 Posted By: TracyPosted in: CES 2008
I think I have a chest cold so I’m loaded (with the recommended dosage, of course) on NyQuil. A little out of it now because of it, so I’ll save both you and I the trouble of embarrassing/weird posts and wait till tomorrow.
The tablet meet-up was a blast. Thanks to all the sponsors. I have lots of pictures. Will post a flickr thing of them once I get them uploaded tomorrow.
OK, falling asleep typing…G’night y’all.
CES 2008: Fujitsu Lifebook T4220
8 January 2008 Posted By: TracyPosted in: CES 2008
What a great Tablet PC. It just looks nice. OK, it does more than look nice, it’s a great design for tablet use and has many features that would make it a great full-time computer, such as a powerful processor and a media drive that can double as a second battery. It’s not new, but it’s new to me ^_^.
CES 2008: HP TX2000 short video
8 January 2008 Posted By: TracyPosted in: CES 2008
Still not sure on battery life (I’ll find out at the tablet meet-up) but here’s a short video of the screen of the TX2000 along with a picture comparison of how much brighter the HP is than my X61T. I think my brightness is up all the way…
Again, sorry that the quality isn’t great…
CES 2008: Toshiba’s Prototype UMPC (short video)
8 January 2008 Posted By: TracyPosted in: CES 2008
Sleek and different, not to big, and with a nice screen, this UMPC looks like a neat idea. I usually like more buttons since those tend to be more flexible, but this one has some neat features like scroll just by tilting (not sure how that would work in the long-run) and neat designs. Sorry about the video quality. I’m using my little digital camera since it’s all I have.
